PLASTIC CLEAN UP - in Collaboration with Empower AS

Around the world, one million single-use plastic bottles are purchased every minute and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) reports about the devastating fact that only 9% of all plastic produced is recycled and just 12% is incinerated. But, let's stay positive as there are many solutions to plastic pollution that we all can participate in today.

As we know by now, most plastics do not biodegrade, instead, they slowly break down into smaller and smaller pieces known as microplastics. And as many of our plastic waste ends up in the ocean, with time, it becomes even more difficult to remove it.

We are more than happy to announce that we have partnered with EMPOWER AS - a Norwegian company with a global impact, to clean up some of this plastic waste. The mission is to protect the environment for our future generations, and that is why we have decided that all our yoga mats will be eco-friendly and sustainable.

Each mat from the 'Mindful Yoga Mat' collection is biodegradable, made from 100% natural tree rubber base - an eco-friendly, sustainable and renewable resource with high performance and a natural grip. The surface consist of microsuede made from recycled PET bottles (18 PET bottles makes 1 yoga mat), printed with eco-friendly water-based inks, and free from PVC, TPE and other harmful chemicals.

Together with EMPOWER AS – for every Mindful yoga mat set sold, we will clean 2,5kg of plastic, or the equivalent of 200 PET bottles.

Empower has extended the idea behind Norway’s plastic exchange scheme to the global scale - by using blockchain. Blockchain allows for seamless tracking and monetization of plastic, even in Third World countries where the majority of the population are unbanked. Empower says that the future of plastic is circular. They generate value out of plastic waste by enabling collectors, recyclers and brands to make a real impact on the environment, by turning waste plastic into consumer products.
